2. What I care about
2.1. Natural materials
- Cotton generally, but hemp, linen, rayon/tencel, silk are all fine. I used to wear a lot of nylons/poly/synthetic that made my dry skin flare up.
- cotton hemp blended textiles resulted in a more dry feel than fully cotton. I preferred this as a sample but haven’t seen it in a t shirt yet.
- GOTS certification. GOTS is the more rigorous between GOTS and OCS and I prefer when a website has a GOTS certification.
2.2. The Ideal T
- In an ideal world the t shirt is made from materials that are made in a regenerative way, spun locally and made by people that are paid fairly. A lot of companies promise some sort of version of this but I tend to stay cynical about marketing materials and look at the certifications and materials.
- no tag, easily removeable/printed tag.
- machine washable.
- I think preferrences for cut will change over time, I just like being able to wear my things over and over.
- A clean white t is all you need.
2.3. Price
- I don’t care about price very much because I own essentially as much as I could ever need. Anything I do buy is a splurge. I don’t like owning a lot of things that don’t get used often, it feels wasteful and I truly believe cheap petroleum tchotckes and ’chic on a budget’ haul culture is what will turn our planet into a tomb.
3. To check out next

4. Me
- I used to wear the same few t’s every day. I try to wear them to shreds, a t shirt should be well loved. I have a few more now but I still like seeing what different people are making.
- Whenever people would ask me about this stuff I would either have to type a paragraph or speak a couple things and blank the rest, so I figured it made sense to write it up.
